RECORD HALF A MILLION TRAVELLERS AT SINGAPORE’S CHECKPOINTS YESTERDAY

PETALING JAYA: A record 510,000 travellers cleared Singapore’s Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints yesterday.

In a Facebook post today, Singapore’s Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said this marks the most travellers using the land checkpoints into Malaysia in a single day.

The agency attributed the surge in travellers to the long Good Friday weekend in Singapore.

“Traffic is expected to remain very heavy today and tomorrow (March 29 and 30) at both land checkpoints, with continuous tailbacks from Malaysia’s checkpoints for departing motorists,” it said.

“Arrival traffic is also expected to be heavy on March 31 (Sunday) as travellers who have departed are expected to return to Singapore.”

ICA said travellers using the land checkpoints during this period are advised to factor in additional waiting time for immigration clearance.

ICA also asked for travellers’ understanding and cooperation to be patient, observe traffic rules, maintain lane discipline and cooperate with officers on-site when using the land checkpoints.
