In a statement, the airline said it had gradually reinstated flights to and from Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan since yesterday evening.

The following flights are affected:

  • Tawau to Kuala Lumpur: MH2661
  • Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu: MH2610, MH2646, MH2612

The airline cancelled 19 flights yesterday following the volcanic eruptions and later announced that passengers affected by flight cancellations would be offered the choice of a one-time itinerary change at no cost or a full refund.

According to The Borneo Post, more than 20,000 passengers were left stranded at the Kota Kinabalu, Labuan, Tawau and Sandakan airports yesterday.

Hundreds were also stranded at the Kuching international airport, with long queues of passengers trying to rebook their flights at the check-in counters and airline offices.

Reuters reported that at least 800 people in North Sulawesi were evacuated after multiple eruptions of Mount Ruang, on Pulau Ruang, about 100km from the provincial capital of Manado.
