AIRTAG TO THE RESCUE! SOFYANK’S MISSING BACKPACK FOUND IN THE PHILIPPINES

Apple AirTag is essentially a small tracking device that can be tracked on your phone. Most people use the AirTag to help them keep track of their personal belongings that they frequently misplace such as their wallets, keys, and bags.

Some people have also used the AirTag to keep tabs on their household pets by attaching the small device to pet collars.

The AirTag works by sending out a secure Bluetooth signal that can be detected by nearby devices in Apple’s Find My network.

The location of your AirTag will be sent to iCloud so you can track your items on the Find My app and see it on the map. Apple said the whole process is anonymous and encrypted to ensure everyone’s privacy.

The nifty AirTag costs RM139 for one and RM469 for a pack of four. The steep price of AirTags does pay off long term since people have reported that the device has helped them track their lost luggage during travels and more.

It’s how Sofyank found his lost backpack

The most recent incident happened to popular VFX content creator Mohamad Sofian, or Sofyank, when he lost his backpack during his trip to Singapore on 25 May.

The backpack contained valuables such as his wallet, laptop, and a hard disk containing his ongoing project files and videos. Fortunately, he has an AirTag in his wallet so he could find where his bag went.

Sofian said someone mistakenly took his bag during a flight on Scoot from Malaysia to Singapore. He believed his backpack was mistakenly taken as he saw another backpack at the airport’s lost and found department from the same flight.

At the time, his backpack was spotted around the Changi terminal, but he received no further updates after 6am. The next ping on the Find My app came in hours later, which revealed that his backpack was at Clark International Airport in the Philippines.

Sofian quickly made a SOS call on his social media and this helped him to get the message out. It also helped him get in touch with some people on the ground like the airport staff at Clark International Airport.

Based on his information, the airport authorities managed to locate his backpack, which still contained all his belongings.

Sofian thanked everyone and the airport staff who helped him during his frantic search for his backpack. With the return of his backpack, he could continue working on his ongoing projects.
